Corey Cogdell Blog - Holy Cow!

by Corey Cogdell / July 28, 2008

Holy cow! This is all coming up so fast! I can't believe how close we are to the Olympics. I find myself wishing for more time and wishing for it to be over all at the same time. The rush of emotions is so overwhelming at times I can barley stand it, I feel excited, anxious, proud, scared, nervous and in utter disbelief that this is really happening.

The last few weeks I have been down in Texas training with my coach Bret, what a great last few weeks it has been. Training with someone of Bret's level is truly motivating and a great learning experience. I am now back in Colorado training on my own and to be perfectly honest it is a struggle to do this on my own at this point, but the though of that gold medal hanging around my neck keeps me pushing. I had a great meeting with my sports psychologist this morning and we talked about all the pressures of being an Olympian and the self imposed pressures that I put on myself. It is amazing how talking about different things can bring to the surface underlying issues that you did not even realize were affecting you. Even though I have only been in this sport a short time I am reminded daily how your frame of mind in anything you do in life can affect the outcome.

So what's next? Well I leave for team processing in just two days so I am packing in the last few days of training I will get here in the USA. We will go from team processing in California to Changwon, South Korea for a week long training camp then over to Beijing for the big show. I can hardly control my excitement at this point for everything that is about to come. Well it is off to the final day of training for me. Check back for more updates!
