U.S. Shooters in Asia to Compete in Changwon and Beijing World Cups

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 9, 2009) - The Opening Ceremony of the ISSF Rifle/Pistol World Cup in Changwon, Korea officially kicked off the 2009 ISSF World Cup season today. Competition will begin Friday with the first final, Men’s 10m Air Rifle, being contested.
Fourteen U.S. rifle and pistol shooters are competing in Changwon April 9-15 and will then travel to Beijing, China for the second leg of the 2009 World Cup series, April 17-23.
The Beijing World Cup will be familiar ground for 2008 Olympians Jamie Beyerle (Lebanon, Pa.), Brian Beaman (Selby, S.D.), Keith Sanderson (San Antonio, Texas) and 2008 bronze medalist Jason Turner (Rochester, N.Y.) who competed in the same venue at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing last August.
The start of the 2009 ISSF World Cup season opens a new Olympic cycle that will lead to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Shooters from all over the world will be competing for World Cup titles in the 10 Olympic rifle and pistol events.

Kelly Dove (Comer, Ga.) - 3 position
Amanda Furrer (Spokane, Wash.) - 3 position
Meghann Morrill (Verdi, Nev.) - air
Amy Sowash (Richmond, Ky.) - air
Men’s Rifle
Hank Gray (Belgrade, Mont.) – 3 position, prone
Joe Hein (Mason, Mich.) – 3 position
Michael McPhail (Darlington, Wis.) – prone
George Norton (Spring, Texas) – prone
Matt Rawlings (Wharton, Texas) – air
David Sprecher (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) – air
Matthew Wallace (Fairbanks, Alaska) – 3 position, air
Men’s Pistol
Beaman – free, air
Sanderson – rapid fire
Turner will join the team in Beijing to compete in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol as well as the Men’s 50m Free Pistol events. Eric Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Ala), a 1996 Olympian, will shoot in the Men’s 50m Prone Rifle event in Beijing.
